red light on the dash

hey guys..hope i can get some info on this issue..

i was riding today and i noticed the red oil light on my dash came on..its the oil and temperature light i think..temperature was fine around 178 and oil is fine too..i cut the engine off and turned it back on and the light was gone..what could be the reason? you guys think i need to do anything?

one thing i noticed about the oil is that when the bike is standing straight up..the oil window is full..above the top line it shows..now i am not sure if its a good or a bad thing since i got the last oil change from honda..let me know what you guys think. thanks.

Drain it down to the proper level.

If you notice it happening intermittently, you might want to check the drive system for the oil pump and the pump itself. If the nut that holds the sprocket for the chain that drives the oil pump has come a little loose, the sprocket can spin on the shaft wich in turn results in low oil pressure.

Are you sure it was the oil light and not the FI light?

its the only red light on the dash..its got the oil and temperature signs underneath it..comes on when i turn on the ignition key and goes off in like 2 seconds..will drain some oil out and definitely keep an eye on it..happens again..straight to honda for sure..thanks zx for the reply..anyone else got any knowledge to share?

Is the oil can symbol showing up, along with the red light , or is it just the red light? I've been having the red light turn intermittently with no other symbol beneath it. When I turn the bike off and then restart it the red light clears.

Look on the digital display when the light comes on. It should say FI or diplay a thermometer, or something like that. It should tell you if it's the oil pressure or temp or fuel injection that's tripping the light.

Does it flash when you turn the ignition on? Also, do you have a Speedohealer installed?

no speedohealer installed..not gunna lie..dont know what a speedohealer is in the first place..new to the technical stuff..and the light has always been coming on when i turn the ignition..i didn't check if there's an FI or a thermometer on the dash but if it happens ill definitely look for it before..and no it doesn't flash..on when i turn the key..off after maybe 2 or 3 seconds..

so it happened again today while i was riding..the light came on and this time i checked the display..FI sign was on there as well..so i guess it's turning on because of the fuel injection..what do you guys suggest i do? take it to the dealer or is there anything i can do to fix it myself?
